Follow up: Sydney Under Siege

Europe, Tranquil

This seems like a fitting image as a follow to yesterday’s post regarding the act of terrorism in Sydney. Two innocent people are dead. It’s a small number by international terrorism standards I suppose, but that will be little consolation to their families and friends. Also dead is the gunman. An Iranian who had been granted political asylum in Australia in 1996. I image the consequence of this event will be that securing political asylum in Australia will become significantly more difficult. This selfish, unbalanced, gunman shattered lives yesterday and shocked a nation with their first taste of terrorism. He also impacted the prospects of those people who really do need asylum. Sad and senseless. Respectfully, I offer up these ‘in memoriam’ candles in honor of the dead. (Image location: Amalfi Cathedral, Italy)
